The Qixi Festival, also known as the Double Seventh Festival or Chinese Valentine's Day, is a traditional Chinese celebration
that falls on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month. It’s one of the most romantic festivals in Chinese culture, rooted in the
ancient legend of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl.
According to the legend, the Weaver Girl, a celestial being, fell in love with a mortal cowherd. Their love was forbidden by the
gods, and they were separated by the Milky Way, only allowed to meet once a year on the seventh night of the seventh lunar month.
On this special night, magpies would form a bridge across the Milky Way, allowing the lovers to reunite.
Today, the Qixi Festival is celebrated as a day for love and romance, similar to Valentine's Day in the West. Couples often exchange
gifts, go on romantic dates, and express their love for each other. Some people also participate in traditional activities, such as making
wishes for happiness and good fortune, or observing the stars in the night sky to honor the legend of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl.
While the festival has ancient roots, it continues to be cherished in modern times as a symbol of enduring love and devotion.
