GE Energy to provide environmental upgrades to Crown van Gelder paper mill in the Netherlands

On October 13, 2005, GE Energy’s Aeroderivative Gas Turbine Services Group announced it would replace the standard

annular combustor (SAC) aeroderivative gas turbine at the Crown van Gelder (CVG) Paper Mill in the Netherlands with

an LM2500 model featuring a dry low emissions (DLE) combustor.

Environmental Technology Upgrade：

This upgrade is one of the early European projects to transition from SAC with steam injection (for NOx reduction) to

DLE technology, significantly reducing nitrogen oxide emissions.

Control System Upgrade：

As part of the power plant repowering project, GE Energy’s Control Solutions Division will upgrade the control system of

the gas turbine generator set, replacing the older Mark II system with the newer Mark VI model.

Condition Monitoring System：

GE will also supply CVG with a Bently Nevada® 3500 condition monitoring system for continuous, online monitoring.

Existing Equipment Operational History：

The existing LM2500 SAC unit was commissioned for commercial operation in 1984 and has operated for more than

160,000 hours at full load.

Project Timeline and Downtime：

The total downtime for the upgrade is planned to last no more than four weeks, with the plant scheduled to be back in

commercial operation by mid-December 2005.
